Description

A short overnight hike that goes through the Mount Greylock State Reservation. The best part of the hike is the summit of Mount Greylock which is the highest point in Massachusetts.

Directions:

Access Hopper Road off Massachusetts 43 in Williamstown, the trailhead is at the end of Hopper Road, there is designated parking near the Haley Farm.

Upside:Great hike with extremely worthwhile views at the top. Add to that a great campsite with even more great views and I give this hike my highest rating.
Downside:When the present road construction is completed and the hoards return, this mountain becomes a bit less desireable. If you are ever going to summit this mountain, do it now before the construction is completed in the Fall of 2009.
Comment:Camping is free (there is a $10 service fee) while the construction is completed. We camped at Stony Ledge and I highly recommend that group site if it is available. We climbed up the Hopper and went down the Haley Farm Trail (steeper and shorter). The first day was a 7.5 mile day with a 2400 foot climb to the summit and the 2nd day was 2.0 miles back to the parking lot in a bit under an hour.
